Preface
How I convince myself to print this book
Two things were there, and being honest: i) a call to guide some who could follow these examples of life, and who I ask to do the same type of little book to the people in your home area, for tourists, pilgrims, travelers, and, for example, using the toponymy of California or Texas lands you can fill out a book of resumed bios of many saints, around you, there, and give another point of view to people who lives in San Diego, San Francisco, Corpus Christi, San Antonio, etc. ii) the thing that give me strength enough to try to publish something like this, outside a science paper on biology (which I have started with 3 papers and counting, in next 60
years...), have been the fate or good luck of knowing Ana Urrutia, the librarian of Huarte (Island in Basque, of the Arga river you come descending from Pyrenees), the Ville where I happily live right now and in the next years, and where I have found peace and serenity to write some thesis, projects, and this little book!; if you are in Huarte's Shelter you could see the first window where I used to sit behind in a calm library ambient. Why Ana helped me and how: she gave me as a gift, for our mutual empathy, a master piece of Whitman, in Spanish, translated by Borges! in which, in the first page stays ...
"Mi lengua, cada molécula de mi sangre formada por esta tierra y este aire.
Nacido aquí de padres cuyos padres nacieron aquí y
cuyos padres también aquí nacieron.
A los treinta y siete años de edad, gozando de perfecta salud,
Comienzo y espero no detenerme hasta morir."
The mention of his age, 37, and the intention of never stop, as I have chosen, lead me to gain enough confidence to communicate with you, dear Pilgrim, now, than I am 37 and begins to publish my passion on life, on people, on love.

Introduction
Welcome to my first public work, a synthesis of some characters and spirits who touch my soul in various ways. I am a biologist, I study life, and life in these historical days is changing in every level; I have 3 kids, I have to do something to protect them but also I want to help the World, in some way.
By own thinking, one have "discovered" what others persons first have saw more easily: that every human being is formed of 3 "stuffs", the famous concepts of Mind, Body and Spirit! Yes, but I just realized that short before, maybe after a mortal accident in which anyone can measure the significance of life and its philosophical battles. I have proven in flesh the fragility of my organs
but, at the same time the miraculous and perfection of cells, self repairing nature, of each creature. So, like that, I imagine an analogy to explain this to my teenage university students from every social origin at Cumaná, Venezuela, the oldest European city in South America.
I begins to share, orally, "my theory" of Trinitarian conformation, and confirmation, of the Being in each one of us, like this: as "à la mode" technologies, screening us today, we use a Hardware, a device, a Body, and, its functions are governed by Software, the artificial intelligence, the Mind, both of these are nothing without a plug to power line or a battery, the Energy! the Spirit! So, I resumed this view at the back cover; please improve it, add your concepts in every circle after your opinions and
believes, and discuss it among friends you march right now...
Because, you are near here now walking, no?, you have come travelling skies, trails, seas, and now, walking. Have you stopped to think why you started to walk or move? to know people? to know yourself? to talk with God? to discover life and nature? to think in positive things?, seeking answers we are since kids until mature ages...Thanks God you choose to walk this roads and path, because if less aggressive than run it, I mean aggressive to your cartilages, bones, in the actual running era...
Walking is more natural, sprint to avoid dangers also, but jogging I am not so sure. Well, natural things are made of wise decisions of Nature and Creature. I
am a biologist, of the few that teaches on Big Bang theory, Oparin & Miller coincidences in first organic molecules random fixing, and Darwin or Wallace dogmas of Evolution, but at the same time I give freedom to my students to answer using the Creationism Believe, if they Believe of course. So, many Catholic, Protestant, Jehovah's Witness and Muslim students that I have had, used this option, and I am sure that if I have had Jewish, Mormon, Orthodox, Copt, Buddhist, Hindu or Shinto students, also.
I use to mention all religions too in my talks, because these belong to the red circle of the cover back, as a part of Culture of our biological species. Faith is another thing, is another level when you
discover the Spirit inside you and your friends and family.
I like to chat, in 3D, in live and touching hands, feeling, smelling, smiling, and having a good Venezuelan coffee, with my Muslim and Jewish brothers. They borrow me their religion's texts; I read it the better I can in this urgency life we live these days. I, happy on the "coincidences" of our religions, mention that many prophets in the Old Testament explain how the Messiah would come and suffer, and, in the Arab written Book of Muslims, it is mentioned Issa, the Arabic name of Jesus, more than 50 times. Check it out.
I am aware of actual separation among our views, culturally based, but the task must remain in try and try,
always, of understanding each other, mutually recognizing us. Details as if some does not eat or drink such things and we do, or, that Jesus had brothers if Mary had children later His Immaculate Conception, (or from a widower Joseph alone before) are, as our Jesuits priest Iñaki Berecibar Aramburu used to said my wife and me: "secondary truths".
Also, the positives values and thoughts of "eastern" religions and native religions of new and old "worlds" are capable of being concatenated one by one with our monotheist branches of Faith.
Once I have visited the Moroccan Kingdom, I use to stands what I have seen and felt in its Souks and "ruelles" and newspapers there: with the 3 official dates for Muslims, Jewish and Christians
in the same front page of every day Journals! and with the peaceful, future like, sentiment of mutual respect in the air, a wise behave of its citizens, and to know or read the slogan of their King, "Defenseur des Croyants", meaning, Defender of Believers! All of us!
Believe! that is all. Not in magical, supernatural goods to serve, as many could want to profit on. No. Seek the Inner Force and Energy of Love, from Faith, from God. You will feel like a modern hero of movies, understanding the environment surrounding us every second since we were born and after that too...
Why I have thought in write these resumed bios? I have been close to die in 2002, in a terrible accident, and the sole
moment my life was in peril and getting sad everyone around. God send messengers to my room, and I am miraculously healthy in mind (I hope) and body, but discovering the force of my Spirit. I just want to help people since I am a 6 year old boy and chatted with mom every night before sleep. I am not perfect, never, I am sinner, often, but, still that, I will want always to try to help the World, the humankind, my favorite biological species! Homo sapiens sapiens and our culture, biology and Spirit.
Route I, Santiago:
Ya'koov (Hebrew) or Yaʿqūb (Arab), son of Zebedo, known as James the Great, also Jaques or Jacques. In Latin known as Sanctus Iacobus (Iacomus) and metamorphosing to Yaco, Yague until Saint Yago, Jacobo, Giacomo. That's why in Portuguese Thiago or Tiago together with the San (from Saint) is one word in another Latin language, the Castellan or Spanish, forming: Santiago, one of the 12 inner circle souls around Jesus Christ!
Born in Bethsaida, Galilee, and martyr near the year 40 A.D., and brother of John (the Evangelist, the Beloved Disciple). These two brothers were cousins of Jesus because their mothers Salome and Mary the Mother of the Messiah, were sisters.
.
When Jesus was crucified, Santiago went to spread the good new, the Gospel (Godspel in primitive English, with the roots in the Greek Euangelion= Evangelium) meaning the Word of God is the Good New! Santiago came to Hispania under the Roman Empire as a commandment of the very Jesus Himself, until the "Finisterre" of known lands at the time, with the clear certitude of the future role of peninsular Kingdoms in the Evangelization of the new World across the Atlantic. In the road to the Edge of the Earth, passing by the Pyrenees, an awesome apparition enlighten his route: the very Saint Mary, flanked by Angels meet the Apostle at the riviers of Elburus river (Ebro) where Santiago were preaching, now the neighbor city of
Zaragoza (related to Zar, Czar, Tsar, Kaïser, Caesar Augusta). You could visit the Virgen del Pilar there!
This Angels from Heaven have marked the route until a Field of Stars, Campus Stellae, passing many of its paths around these virtuous lands, like Estella (Estrella- Star-; Lizarra in the ancient basque language) founded by a navarran King as reference to the first Pilgrims of the Camino de Santiago until Compostela, where lays his tomb. At the time he preach around the Ebro river, he performed miracles and signs by calling the name of Jesus as well as his disciples did in their evangelization of Hispania. Two of those, lay with him at the tomb at Compostela, discovered 900 hundreds years after his martyrdom in Rome by the year 42 A.D., when his body was
promptly transported by sea until this part of the edges of known world, Finisterre, at the upper left corner of Hispania lands. Everyone can trace the steps of Santiago in these lands of Faith, while enjoying the company of friends and family, admiring the very views and temperatures this Apostle saw and felt. The Apostle is the task given by Jesus to His friends and first followers, meaning "messenger, envoy, send" or "I depart", to talk with people, the poorest without hopes, to all who Believes on Spirit, inside ourselves, inspiring (the Spirit living inside you and me) the best feeling, emotion and act that a Human being can do: to Love the one besides you right now and after that, to sacrifice yourself time, energies and efforts to please the loved one (a difficult task these days, ask my wife...but I will try for ever, I
respond...), certain of the reward you get each second of the miracle of Life functioning in every single of trillion molecules and billions cells that compounds you, and me, along with the Spirit shared and created in the Image of God Itself in each one of His Creatures.
Please, take a look to the map we draw for you, and come soon, from Holy Land, or Italy, or France, marching, step by step, throughout Navarra's paths until Compostela, feeling and gaining the shield of light of Santiago when he spread the words of the Lord Jesus, the God sent. Think about the future of our planet, your sons, or if you plan to have children in the future, to form a sacred family. Just Believe, have faith on Love of God inside us, each one of us. Be Good, Virtuous.

Route from Pamplona to Santiago. 660 Km.
Route II, San Fermín:
Pamplona was a tiny roman agglomeration, renaming the site of Iruña (the indigenous Basque name) in honor of Pompaelo (Pompeyo), at the heart of Navarra lands with the Arga river passing southwestward, sinuously at its foothills.
Pamplona was neuralgic to Romans. Near the Ebro river to reach the Mediterranean Sea, near the Pyrenees with access to Gallia (France), surrounded by fertile soils and crossed by the Via Romana. After the year 40 A.D., all Hispania begins its Christianization by pioneers like Saint Jacques (Santiago), but in part of Navarra and the rest of basque lands around, the indigenous religion was strong, with deep differences between the Christian roman in one side,
and the Basque Sheppard and urban ones, in the other side, both still then relying in the ancient believes of this first culture.
The roman authority, called this believes paganism. Among those pagans were the parents of Fermin, born in 272
A.D. Even that, Fermin embraces the new Faith, becoming in a good preacher, bringing Hope to the poorest and segregated and miserable.
How Fermin was Inspired? His parents, once, invited home a foreigner who preached vigorously in the name of Jesus, named Honoratus (Honesto) a disciple of Saturnine of Tolosa (Toulouse, marching east, at the other side of the Pyrenees), and were very impressed by his speech and force. As Saturnine was
disciple of the disciples of the very Apostles, the strong connection with the times of Jesus was very near, in time and space. Like this, the father of Fermin wanted to become Christian, and more, he wanted to meet Saturnine Bishop of Toulouse himself; which happens when the Bishop came to Pamplona and baptized "more than 40.000 pagans"!
When this happened, Fermin was around 10 years old and was taught by Honoratus himself in modeling him into the Spirit, guessing the immense soul this kid had. When Fermin was 18 years old, he preaches for his first time, delighting people with his speech. So, his parents rapidly send him to Toulouse under Honoratus care, now as Bishop.
Soon, Fermin became Bishop of Pamplona, and acted like an enthusiast preacher and converter, baptizing many pagans, meaning the end of pagan temples, and Navarra became a land full of Christians.
Fermin used to invoke the Holy Trinity and the Holy Virgin Mary, performing many miracles, so many, that people of all Navarra and from Gallia believe in his words and converted promptly. Also, Fermin was preparing his own disciples to continue this role until now and from Jesus times.
Then, Fermin goes to Gallia, when the pagans pursued the new Faith, but he was indifferent on these perils, marching up to Normandy, where his preaches was full of serenity. In Beauvais, the
governors battle every little signs of Christianism, and Fermin was jailed just arriving there. Surviving the infrahuman conditions, Fermin got out of prison and retook the preach in Jesus name, a signal that was accepted by people as an heroic and brave movement, that helps to construct their Faith, and new Churches as well as in all the territories of Gallia and even the region of the actual Netherlands.
Fermin, continued performing prodigious miracles, as Peter and Paul did (read it at the Act Book of the Bible, amazing!) in the days following the Resurrection of their Master, Jesus.
Intrigued, the governor of Amiéns (always in Gallia) called Fermin to meet him, just to fall in his Speech and the
sincerity of his words, freeing him again. Like this, Fermin continue preaching the Good New, the Promise of God in Jesus, and the same governor ordered to jail him again.
Facing some kind of riots of he people, the new Believers, forced the governor in a stupid impulse: to kill Fermin in jail, at the age of 31.
This resumed view of Fermin, a Saint, son of pagans, fervent preacher and passionate converter on God's news, you can corroborate yourself in visiting the churches in Pamplona, Amiéns, Toulouse, where he walked, and talked with people, maybe in the same corner that you are standing by right now, reading this lines...
Please, march as a Pilgrim of Fermin, reading his Bible, reaching the cities he went to spread the seedlings of Hope among Humankind...you can go to Toulouse to thanks its Bishops by their dedication on Fermin education as a kid and a young man, just go.

Route III, San Miguel in Aralar:
Saint Michael appeared in Aralar Mountains! So, San Miguel is the Saint Patronous of Basque's Lands.
Long before of the existence of a Navarran Kingdom, lived Teodosio, a Christian, and a Knight in the Goñi Valley. When he left home to assist the battles against the Arabs (with the same root Faith that his, Abraham/Ibrahim-rooted! but not understood at the time...and even now) and he leaves also his wife Constanza and his parents.
Constanza put her parents in law to sleep in the dormitory room of the Spouses of Palace, while she rested in a little one nearby. But, when Teodosio came back victorious to his Castle, the Enemy appeared to him costumed like a
Basajaun (Lord of Woods, in Basque) who told him "your wife is cheating you with another man"...
Wroth, Teodosio ride his horse to home, at dusk, entering the palace, furious with his sword on hand and entering his nuptial room, killing the couple in bed...
But, when he gets out of the room, he encounters his very wife, coming from mass! Alarmed, he realized that he have just killed his own parents.
Then, he goes to Pamplona to ask pardon to the Bishop, who sends him to Rome to the Pope himself to solve this sin.
Teodosio, in plain Metanoia (permanent change of oneself, regretting
our mistakes) parts as a mere Romer, a pilgrim to Rome, where the Pope punish him to carry heavy chains until a divine miracle liberated him as an unequivocal sign of a heavenly pardon. After, one day, this chained man, retired in Aralar mountains, meet a dragon, and he, without possibilities, ask the protection of Saint Michael...just invoked, the Angel chief appeared, with a Holy Cross in his head, killing the beast at the voice of "Who is like God" (Nor Jaungoikoa bezala in Basque, Mīkhāʼēl in Hebrew). At the very moment, the chained man was liberated and forgiven by God, Who gives him a gift.
Free, he came home, to palace, to his wife Constanza, and together, grateful to God, lifted a Sanctuary in honor of the Archangel Saint Michael, San Miguel, at
the heights of Aralar mountains, a beautiful land you must see and guard in your heart when you visit this memory of Faith of a couple.
Remember Saint Michael as the First Angel of God!

Route IV, Saint Roque le Pellerin:
Born under Catalan Kingdoms at Montpellier (France now) in the year
1.295 A.D., in a miraculous birth and marked with a red Cross in his chest. Roque was son of a noble and being very young he manifested devotion to God signs.
Once his parents died in his youth, he did like Saint Francis and share their belongings with the poorest of Montpellier, before his depart as a pilgrim to Rome, practicing the mendicancy to survive the travelling. During his time in the Italian peninsula, he used to help the ill of the plague epidemic, performing miracles by praying, by the sign of the Cross and imposing his hands. In southern France it is known as Saint
Roque Le Pellerin! The Pilgrim, just as you are from now and ahead. Being very ill himself, as used to be, he was segregated into a forest, but, a dog, licked his wounds and bring him bread to eat, daily, healing Roque!. Once back in Montpellier he was arrested to 5 years in jail on false accusations, and died in 1327 at the age of 33. In that prison an Angel came bringing a Table of Gold sent by God, which stated that a prayer invoking Saint Roque will not be wounded by the plague... When you, pilgrim, come again to Navarra marching, just start in Montpellier, or if you plan it well, do it in the other sense, in the shorter route from Pamplona to Montpellier we draw for you and your friends, visit the places where Roque cured people, maybe you reach Rome...
Saint Roque
Route from Pamplona to Montpellier. 553 Km.
Route V, Ignacio de Loyola:
Baptized Iñigo (Iñaki, Eneko), the basque forms of Ignatius (Ignacius) which, in turn, means "fire" in Latin, from ignition...
This candlelight soul was born in 1491 in Loyola, between Azpeitia and Azcoitia in our basque lands northward from Pamplona; son of a respected family, after his parent's death, Ignacio was sent to Ávila with Juan Velázquez's family, who was the Secretary of Treasury of the Kings of Castilla. So, he spent 10 years among the Court, acquiring their culture, getting better writer, until he was sent again to another Kingdom, Navarra, to serve the Duke of Nájera, Sir Manrique de Lara, where, again, Ignacio demonstrated his
intelligence and liberal thinking and a skillful negotiator to pacify rebellions among villagers, and even defended Pamplone from the French army, being wounded by bullet in his two legs.
These wounds were severe, and while healing, he read some Knights books, but also read The Life of Christ. The latter book provoked an interior conversion in Ignacio, thinking in imitate the Saints, Domingo and Francisco overall, deciding to break his past life and begins a new one, and, to begins properly, he wanted to pilgrim to Jerusalem! So he departed from Loyola, planning to reach Barcelona, navigate to Rome and ask blessing from the Pope to visit Holy Land.
Ignacio departs, and stops at the Marian Sanctuary at Aránzazu where he made vows of chastity, and continued to Catalan Lands, reaching Manresa, where he stayed 11 months. Here, he received the Grace at the Riviera of Cardoner river in his way to Saint Paul monastery, explaining to his friends: I feel like another man, having "another" intelligence.
Finally, reaching Barcelona he navigated to Rome (1523) and obtained the permit he looked for. He reached Venice by land, and there he departed, again, touching the isle of Cyprus just before landing at Holy Land coasts.
Once there, he visited the Holy Places, with the intention of establishing there permanently and become Apostle
among the people of Jerusalem. But he could not, given the risks his projects would carry to all Christians in the region, so, he travel back to Venice in 1524. Established in Barcelona, he was teach in Latin at the age of 33, but was jailed by Inquisitors chiefs for Preaching without studies of Theology, and in a way "so naïve and Inspired", that took the attention and seed dudes on he and his friends, who, besides, dressed bizarre...
In 1528 he arrives to Paris to study, again, travelling to Flandes and England to fund himself and his friends with donations of traders to finance their stage in Paris.
Here he starts the Spiritual Conversations and Exercises with 3 students, changing their lives totally.
These latter actions provoke anger in the Dean of College, and Ignacio was punished in an isolated room. When he could continue his studies until 1534, he meet Pedro Fabro and the Navarran noble, Francisco Javier, whom later would start the Jesus Company together!: "to serve our Lord leaving all things of the world" as planned in their vow at Montmartre, "living in poverty and pilgrim to Jerusalem". "If Pilgrimage fail, we will offer ourselves to the Pope and he will consider sending us whenever convenient for the Church". Ignacio came back to his Basque land of Guipuzkoa and Navarra, bringing a letter of Francisco Javier to his
-
family, and
preaching
in Barcelona,
Venice, Rab
(today's
Croatia), and
Jerusalem. In his autobiography (read it please) Ignacio tells that some kind of mutation of soul he felt by seeing God to
put His Son Jesus in front of him, in a Trinitarian vision in which the Father tells Jesus "I want You to take this as Your servant" and Jesus, facing Ignacio, told him "I want that you serve Us". Ignacio, later, said: “Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my entire will, all I have and call my own. You have given all to me. To you, Lord, I return it. Everything is yours; do with it what you will. Give me only your love and your grace, which is enough for me.”
Saint Ignacio
Route from Pamplona to Loyola. 86 Km.
Route VI, Francisco de Javier:
An intelligent student at Paris University in the times Ignacio de Loyola was there too. Together, among others, they created the Jesus Company, in a very critical momentum to Faith and during the inflexion (point) times of a new "World" at the other side of ocean...
Francisco Javier, or, "de Javier" (of Javier, von, from, at the site of Javier, in Navarra, a name, Xavier, Xabier, derived from a last name: Etxeberria or `new house` in Basque), became a Missionary who reached Asia! Bringing Jesus teaches to new persons in the entire World, and touching and respecting the own cultures he knew there, in India, Japan, and almost China. He used to send letters full of passion to his mates in Europe,
probably using the trader's transoceanic communications of Portuguese, Nether- landers, and Englishmen.
Son of nobles, the Castle where he was born at Javier, served in the wars against another Christian Kingdom, Aragon, lands that you can reach to see if you go there during the "Javieradas" or the pilgrimage to honor this Saint every month of March (the first two weekends in a row, a whole week of celebration of Faith and friendship and family).
At the end of his teenage he left town and goes to Paris to study philosophy. There he changes from being a Noble to a more spiritual being, in his friendship with Ignacio, a neighbor under the same Kingdom of Navarra. These two friends helped to spread Christianity
all over the World, and mainly Javier, who was sent as Pope's envoy to East Indies (the true ones!). He stayed in Goa, Ceylan, Malipur, Malaca, and Moluk islands, around the year of 1545, and "rediscovered" the Japanese Empire and islands and costumes to the "western civilization". The fact of being the first European in Japan, travelling its cities, talking with its peoples, even dressing like they do and eating what they eat, caused a grand interest in Europe as he describes the Japanese culture. This is one of the reasons of why Pamplona has a confraternity deal with Yamaguchi, one of many cities in Japan where Javier stayed and preached on Jesus, son of God, His words, examples, and the new Faith. So, Christianism is, until now, living together with Shinto and Buddhism, two virtuous religions too, that we must
respect, like Japanese people respected this "foreigner" teaching Christianism among their villagers 500 hundreds years ago! He attempted to reach China, but died in an island just besides the continent, and his body was transported to Goa, in India, where even today it is venerated by the people. Navarra declares him Patronus of its Kingdom and the Vatican as the Saint of Youth. To learn more than in this little aperitif, please, read the first biography of Javier that was written in Latin by Turselin, in 6 books! printed at Rome in 1594, who also translated into Latin, in 4 books, all the letters of Javier.
Saint Francisco Javier
Route from Pamplona to Javier. 55 Km.
Route VII, Juan Bonal:
A beggar, a priest, an apostle of charity, walking in mendicancy in favor for the poorest of Spain, an unbreakable marcher in the very roads you might be walking right now... Padre Juan Bonal!
Maybe an unknown name, another priest, born in 1769, possibly a future saint to Vatican, now a Foundation with his name still helping poor around the World!
Born at Gerona, Catalunya, in a Christian rooted family with a high knowledge standard, and destined to serve as priest of Jesus. He studied philosophy and theology in Huesca, Zaragoza and in Barcelona.
He gained a professor position in an academic contest in Grammar at Tarragona, where he stayed 7 years. In this Romanic art enriched city, begins its passion for charity and devotion to the poorest of his time, their necessity, suffered day by day. He achieves to compaginate teaching with charity and preaching, attending and curing abandoned kids and teenagers.
He later quits teaching to dedicate in life to the hopeless, the ill ones, with devoted service at Hospitals in Barcelona and in Zaragoza (year 1804). In this latter city he founded the Brotherhood of Charity, with himself as first director.
Then, a war came, and with battles at Zaragoza, his Hospital went to ruins for many years, and misery was
established. So, Juan Bonal will dedicate the rest of his life, to beg, town to town, walking or by horse, all the interior Spain, to ask the non poor people, for helping his Hospital at Zaragoza, the very site where Santiago meet Virgin Mary, a central Pillar of Peninsular Christianity, remember...
Juan was in everywhere doing well for the weakest, the humblest, asking charity to plain people as well, practicing confession, giving peace to all who came to him.
The fatigue and misery of his ways, and every single obstacle he sorted, lead him to persist into the giant task he put himself, to serve poor people, appealing to charity of others, fellow men, the "neighbors".
He died in 1829, nearly 60 years old, in hands of 2 Sisters of the Brotherhood of Charity (now a Sisterhood: Hermanas de la Caridad de Santa Ana), exhausted for never stopping to think in himself but to serve Jesus and God trough the poorest, loving them as much he loved his own life, one of the Commandments. So, when you came back to these virtuous lands of Navarra, do not forget to travel like him, to Gerona, passing Zaragoza, to learn more on this good example of a human being, devoted to others.

Route VIII, Virgin Mary at Lourdes:
"at the other side of that mountain, over there!"
In 1858, one of the apparitions of Our Lady took place in Lourdes, France. There, or here (is the same lands, around Pyrenees), the Virgin Mary appeared to a
14 years old girl, Bernadette Zubiru (or Soubirous, as a French phonetic translation of a clearly Basque rooted name, Zubi= bridge). At the same moment Mary appeared to this young lady, this one asked her: "who are you my Lady?", and a celestial conversation begun!
"I am the Immaculate Conception"
And, it is with this title of the Immaculate Conception that the Virgin
Mary is know, remembering the way her mother Anna conceived Mary in the same way Mary will bring Jesus, by God Will, as Archangel Saint Gabriel told Joachim, the husband of Anna, and without children for 20 years. He and Anna were told to name this newborn Mary, and to dedicate her to God, as she was chosen for a sacred role in her future, being the Mother of the Messiah. In the future, march again, from Pamplona, Huarte or Roncesvalles, to Lourdes, very near from here, and submerge yourself in the very, very cold waters of this source, and ask God for miracles in your life and to help others you love. Mary is His chosen one, she is special, and for many, many Catholic or Orthodox or Coptic brothers is central in their way to find Jesus and God, such thing that I used to respect a lot. Mary has appeared for some reasons in
tumultuous times and places around the World, it is a heavenly messenger to communicate us something... she has come to Mexico and to Venezuela, and she appeared in Africa and Asia too...

Route IX, San José María Escrivá:
Born in Barbastro, Aragon, in 1902, he became priest in 1925. A Saint after the Pope John Paul II, he founded, by divine inspiration, the Opus Dei in 1928. This 80.000 members religious movement, stays besides the Vatican and educate and heal many people around the World in its schools, colleges, universities and hospitals and clinics, but the things I want to highlight here on this person, are 2 of the main concepts (of many more I am sure) that I have assumed as a "rational truth" after reading his master piece book "El Camino" and chatted with my beloved brother on this subject: i) to love the World as one and unique and the whole Humanity therein; ii) that everyone of us can become into saints by doing whatever
function life gives us at work, our activities, our passions for doing good and doing it well assuming the role assigned by Providence, with humble attitude and rationally acting by the highest moral and ethics values of human believes and Faith.
I think this example is good enough to imitate, or try to, to be, more spiritual, more faithful, doing your job better each day, devoted, professionally we would say these days; and if you do not have any job at the moment, there is a lot of work to do in many things around us right now (lands, seas...).
So, we propose you a new road to know this new Saint for many, a road that you might profit to read his main book and discuss among friends and
family who accompanied you in this path to discover the power of our souls, spirit, energy...See our map, and follow this route soon...

Route X, Virgin Mary at Fátima:
During World War I, the Pope prayed for peace. In May 1917 there was the Virgin Mary's first appearance at Fatima, Portugal.
In a small village near Lisbon, 3 children interacted directly with the very Virgin Mary, the Mother of Jesus herself!. Up to 6 times came Mary and before her, came 3 times the Angel of Peace!
Lucia dos Santos (literally her last name means "of the Saints") aged 9, and her cousins Francisco, 8, and Jacinta, 6, saw and talked with the Angel of Peace in the spring of 1916, a year earlier of the visit of Mary to this site.
This "shining man" ask the children to pray with him to Jesus and to Mary;
the same in the summer visit of this Angel, and during the third one and last visit in the autumn of 1916.
The day of May 13th, 1917, the 3 children were out in the pasture with their sheep, when they saw a light, a flash, and saw the Virgin Mary, dressing in white, like the sunshine, telling them: "Do not be afraid, I will not harm you." Lucia as the oldest, asked her where she came from, and Mary pointed to the sky and said: "I come from heaven." Lucia then asked her what she wanted: "I have come to ask you to come here for six months on the 13th day of the month, at this same hour. Later I shall say who I am and what I desire. And I shall return here yet a seventh time." She asks them for sacrifices...
The children think in ways they could make sacrifices, as Mary demanded: they decided stay without lunch and to pray the full rosary.
In one of her last appearances of Mary in Fatima, occurred the Miracle of the dancing sun: The Miracle of the Sun testified by many, in a crowd of people who came to see themselves the apparitions of the latest months. For a skeptical newspaper reporter there, "the sun trembled, made sudden incredible movements outside all cosmic laws"; the sun "danced" according to the typical expression of the people.
Again, in the vicinity of Portugal, north, in Galicia (where many of you are directing right now, to Santiago de Compostela), the Virgin Mary came
another time and appeared in front of Lucia at the Convent of Pontevedra, in 1925, demanding to the young Portuguese girl, to confess, receive Holy Communion, do the Rosary...later, in 1929, in the Convent Chapel of Tuy, Mary communicated her (Lucia) that her Immaculate Heart was consecrated to Russia...
Once you reach Compostela, rest few days, gain energy and visit Tuy, Pontevedra, the Sanctuary of Fatima, or, in another route we propose you, start in Pamplona, and march to Fatima trough Castilla.

Ignacio Larrañaga
Another contemporary priest, Franciscan, but Capuchin before, born in Loyola (1928) like the other Ignacio, the founder of the Jesus Company! Larrañaga was ordered priest in this city of Pamplona and was active in Spain until he was sent to Chile, very young, where he became in a local man, a Chilean of Basque origins. There, he preach, he writes, and organized conferences, courses. In 1965 he founded a Centre of Study for Franciscans of Latin America, but, in 1974, in Brazil he invented a method of evangelization named "Encounter of God Experiences" with thousands of people involved, thus delegating this task to married couples from different countries, that still functions today. In 1984, his master
piece, Talleres de Oración y Vida (Pray and Life Workshops) with his recorded videos and messages to the participants, in which one can learn different ways to pray or "talk" to God, to Jesus, to Mary...the ones who liked me more were: to retire to mountains like Master Jesus did, to pray to His Father, Our Father; to read the same lines in the Bible that Jesus read, the Psalms; to kneel alone and pray; to sit alone in a calm room and pray... When you go as Pilgrim for Ignacio de Loyola, to, Loyola, from Navarra, remember to think in this man of bone and flesh who educated many on God and how to reach Him...

Iñaki Berecibar Aramburu
A living saint man, young even near the 70'S, but affected by Parkinson since 1990's, he still offer solutions to hundreds of his ancients students from Venezuela in the many regions he was put by the Jesus Company in my country.
I have visited him very few times at San Ignacio School Residence at Caracas, where he receives personal care on his health issues (many things derived from this condition of nerve system...), that he, philosopher, theologist, educator, biologist, knows very well, and certainly, worry him a lot. But this is not enough to stop helping people in the "Cloud" or web or net! It is amazing how he achieves to write, and talk, chat, read, give conform and hope to hundreds of young adults
that even today relay on his words to solve spiritual issues and humans problems...
You can find Iñaki at Facebook, Linkedin, Scribd, Telly, mails, phone, fax, so "I have named him" the Virtual Apostle! joking with the man who marry me with my wife, my only love...Thanks Iñaki, and God gives you more strength even now...go on my friend...
Do not Pilgrim to Caracas yet, no, just search for Iñaki on the Web, and send him energies, in Spanish or in Euskera...thanks!

Epilogue
Why I gather these examples of saints, from many out there in all religions? well, since I do not want to enter into other cultures, different of my Christian knowledge to not fall in mistakes or misunderstandings with our fellows of other religions, I have chosen these from my Christian Catholic experiences during my existence:
Santiago, due to a casualty with my Basque grand father Jaime Jacobo (or Luciano?) Santiago de Elguezabal Olabarrieta! look that his 3 (or at least 2 of 3) names means the same! while his two last names are clearly Basques. That always took my attention: what his parents wanted to mean with these 3 names?
Fermin, cause being one of Navarran patronus, and as my grandmother Beatriz Aristizabal Vicente was born and raise here, and later in her home at Caracas during each Christmas, when her husband (nire Aitite, my grandpa) celebrated his birthday, the family used to talk on the war that obliged them to move to Venezuela in 1937, or the family left here, or the costumes and foods and believes and fests of Navarra, or my father studying at Lekaroz in the 1950's with the Capuchins...so, Fermin and his power to gather so many of you every month of July means that some one has to meet his life in 2 minutes at least with this little abstract... research more, and rethink your own role in these times in the World...
Michael, cause I always was fier of my name and its meaning. Mikel is the Basque voice as transformed 200 years ago of several Christians names into Basque phonetics. I have been told of one anecdote that want to share shortly: when I was baptized at Caracas San Juan Bosco Church, with a pro Franquism priest directing the ceremony, this person insisted in calling me Miguel, again, and again, with my Aitite interrupting him each time to correct: "Mikel"...as the priest continued several times more, my grandpa exploded and said "Michel in French, Mijail in Russian, Michael in English, Michele in Italian, and, Mikel in basque!!" So, the ceremony ends shortly...
So, Miguel means Mikel, well, and my name I received from my other
grandpa, the maternal one, Miguel Méndez Isava, still working and loving God at 91 years old at Maturin, an oil city in eastern Venezuela. Like me, several of his grandchildren's names Miguel, but in my case, my father, nire Aita, negotiates with my mom the Basque form...San Miguel is the soldier of God against evil, I like that!
Roque, because I was born in Montpellier in 1977, then departed in 1978 to Venezuela and raised there; when I lived during a year (2003-2004) in this southern France old city, I had the opportunity of participate in the festivities of Saint Roque and to know its chants, the life of the man who spread Faith and cured ill people...
Ignacio, because I am a partisan of Jesus Company since teenaged, and the force of this name is within my family at least in 9 relatives, brother, son, cousin, uncle, etc., etc. Saint Ignacio built a web of "soldiers" of Faith, of Jesus, of God. For example, in Latin America, Africa and Asia there is Fe y Alegría (Faith and Joy), a network of Schools, Workshops, Colleges and educational radios that give the best education to the people, free or almost free in many cases.
Javier, because of his role in the Jesus Company from the beginnings, and his role in spreading the Faith in Asia. His decision of changing his life style is also remarkable, intriguing for many.
Juan Bonal, because of chance, fate, or good luck simply. When I came to
Navarra to live with my family for some years to do my post-graduates studies, in 2013, just landed, a good friend invited us to a show of photography of a Foundation named Juan Bonal, from which a I have never listened. We went, and the first images that took our attention were of those Sisters caring on the poorest in Perijá mountains, between the imaginary border traced on Wayú people by Venezuela and Colombia republics; that touched our fibers, and immediately we took contact to them to help in anyway our land over there and
everywhere in the World too...
Mary, because of her sublime role being the one and only chosen girl to carry Jesus as embryo, fetus, newborn, baby, child, teenager, young man, adult...Because of the devotion of my
-
Mother (another
Dr.
in Biology, who
Believes) as she
did
some promise at
Fatima with me
as
a newborn, and
because the many followers who respect this Example of Life, of Mother, of Woman. Also, I remember when a submerged in the cold waters of Lourdes, and the things I asked God then.
José María Escrivá, because his book likes me very much and the examples of life of some friends at the Opus Dei, and the rational explanations of my brother Paul on Liberty, Free Will, le libre arbitre, and the moral decisions one has to make every second in life.
Ignacio Larrañaga, because his Workshop "Pray & Life", which I did with my wife for 10 weeks in 2012 in Cumaná, leaded by a virtuous family Morgado.
Theses courses on techniques to pray, as Jesus used to, delight me and my wife, and improved our relation to God. He just departed to heaven in 2013. Ask in your city when you go back if you got interested in his techniques.
Iñaki Berecibar Aramburu, because he directed the ceremony of our marriage, in a tough dissertation on sex problems among couples!, with our guests wondering why telling that in the Mass? Well, this man is a modern Priest, who knows our society from his 4 university careers and his contact all his life with young students and friends. Now, even with advanced Parkinson he continues to help people in a very modern way...
